Negros Power Shares Reason Behind Higher June Bills
Electricity bills will rise this June 2026, and many people in Central Negros are likely asking why. Negros Power has shared an explanation to help customers understand the new rate increase, which is also being implemented outside its service area.
Negros Power says the main reason for the June 2026 rate increase is higher generation costs. In other words, buying electricity from suppliers has become more expensive, raising power rates throughout the Visayas.
For households, the average electricity rate in June 2026 is ₱13.8417 per kilowatt hour. This is ₱2.4609 higher than the May 2026 rate of ₱11.3808 per kilowatt hour.

Why Electricity Rates Increased This June 2026
Negros Power explained that the main reason for the increase is the higher cost of generating power. Simply put, the electricity that utilities buy from suppliers now costs more.
A big factor is the price increase at the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), where electricity is traded based on supply and demand. When supply is low and demand stays high, prices can rise quickly.
In June 2026, WESM prices more than doubled. Some power plants were offline, but demand stayed high. As a result, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines issued Yellow and Red Alerts for the Luzon and Visayas grids.
These alerts mean the power supply was under strain. When supply is limited, electricity prices in the market usually go up.
Higher Fuel Prices Also Affected Power Costs
In addition to WESM prices, Negros Power also mentioned higher costs from CENPRI. This was due to rising fuel prices worldwide.
Fuel prices are important for power generation, especially for plants that rely on fuel. When fuel prices go up, producing electricity costs more. This can raise the generation charges on your monthly bill.
Engr. Christian John Villena, Energy Sourcing Manager at Negros Power, said the increase reflects current market conditions affecting the whole Visayas grid. He also emphasized that this situation is not unique to Negros Power.
Other electric utilities in the Visayas are also expected to raise their rates because they face the same higher generation costs.
Generation Charges Are Not Income For Negros Power
Negros Power also reminded customers that generation charges are simply passed on to them. These charges are not part of the utility’s income.
This is important because some customers might think a higher bill means more profit for the utility. In fact, generation costs go to power suppliers, since they cover the electricity bought for customers.
Utilities like Negros Power collect these charges in your monthly bill, but the money is paid to the power generators and suppliers.
June 2026 Electricity Rates Of Negros Power
For June 2026, Negros Power announced these average electricity rates:
- Residential consumers will pay ₱13.8417 per kilowatt hour.
- Low-Voltage customers will pay ₱13.7469 per kilowatt-hour.
- High Voltage customers will pay ₱12.8694 per kilowatt hour.
The residential rate increased noticeably from May 2026, mainly due to higher generation charges. Transmission charges went down a little, but not enough to offset the big jump in generation costs.
What This Means For Consumers
For many families, the June 2026 rate increase could mean higher monthly bills, especially for homes with many appliances.
Appliances like air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, fans, rice cookers, water dispensers, and other high-use devices can add a lot to your monthly bill. With higher rates this month, every unit of electricity used will cost more.
That’s why Negros Power continues to encourage customers to save energy at home. Simple habits can help manage electricity costs, especially when rates go up.
Turning off lights and appliances when not in use, using natural ventilation, cleaning air conditioner filters, unplugging chargers, and choosing energy-efficient appliances can all help lower your electricity use.
Negros Power Reaffirms Commitment To Transparency
Negros Power says it is committed to keeping customers informed about factors that affect electricity rates. The company explains monthly rate changes so people can better understand why their bills change.
The company also says it continues to look for the best and most reliable power sources. This helps provide stable electricity and manage costs for customers.
As fuel prices, supply conditions, and market prices continue to affect generation costs, Negros Power promises to keep customers updated on any changes that might influence electricity rates.
A Regional Power Rate Concern
The June 2026 rate increase shows how linked the power situation is across the Visayas. When supply is tight, fuel prices rise, or WESM prices go up, utilities and customers throughout the region are affected.
For Negros Power customers, the message is clear: the increase is mainly due to higher generation costs driven by market conditions, limited supply, and rising fuel prices. This is not just affecting one utility.
Higher electricity rates are tough for families and businesses, but knowing the reasons behind the increase can help people make better energy choices and manage their monthly use more wisely.
