Rotary–East, partners care for cancer patients

By Carla N. Cañet

The Rotary Club of Bacolod–East and its partners will hold a “Hair for Hope” project on July 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the main atrium of Robinsons Place in Bacolod City.

This project is about hair donation for the cancer patients under the Kadughan Breast Care Foundation and Oncology Department of Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.

This is part of the humanitarian service of Rotary Club of Bacolod-East under the leadership of its new president, Philip Araneta.  Araneta and his partner companies and volunteers are enjoining those with long and healthy hair to donate their hair with a minimum of nine inches in length, unbleached, uncolored, unprocessed hair, must be clean and dry, without gel, spray or mask to come to the event and make a difference in the lives of these cancer patients.

He said this project aims to touch the hearts of the cancer patients and their families. A cancer patient cannot do away with hair loss due to chemotherapy and this is quite a tormenting part of their medication. Our hair is our crowning glory and losing them to a chemo would have an emotional impact on the patient.

We want to extend our help to these cancer patients just to assuage or help minimize the impact of hair loss to them, he said. Araneta is thanking in advance their partners and donors for this collaboration.

“We can all feel well if we help empower the cancer patients to celebrate life anew by having a secondary hair. This will surely bring them countless joy.”*
