Negros Power Modernizes Grid with P192M Mobile Substation
Negros Power is stepping up its game in powering communities in Central Negros. The company recently announced a P192M mobile substation investment, a major move that highlights its commitment to modernization, reliability, and long-term growth.
This project is part of the first three years of Negros Power’s five-year development plan, which aims to deliver stronger and more reliable electricity across its franchise area. Let’s break down what this means for residents, businesses, and the future of power in Negros.

Why a Mobile Substation Matters
For most people, electricity is something we rarely think about until there’s a power outage or a scheduled maintenance. This is where a P192M mobile substation becomes valuable.
Unlike permanent substations, which require major groundwork and time to build, a mobile substation can be deployed quickly. It acts as a backup, ensuring that customers still enjoy stable electricity while a permanent substation undergoes repairs or upgrades.
Negros Power President and CEO Roel Castro explained that this investment is a crucial part of their strategy to support the growing demand for electricity in the area. By May next year, the company expects to have the mobile substation fully operational, which will be a big relief for many consumers.
Upgrades Already Underway
The investment in the P192M mobile substation is not a one-off project. Negros Power is also busy with other infrastructure upgrades this year.
- Mountain View Substation Upgrade – With a budget of P25 million, this project is expected to wrap up by September.
- Transfer of the 12MVA Transformer – By November, the Mountain View transformer will be moved to the Murcia Substation with a budget of P10 million.

These moves are part of the company’s effort to improve capacity and ensure that energy distribution runs smoothly across different areas.
Rehabilitation and Catching Up
According to Negros Power President Mr Roel Castro, the first three years of their five-year plan are dedicated to rehabilitation. This involves upgrading existing infrastructure, modernizing outdated systems, and ensuring that customers receive reliable power without frequent interruptions.

Over the past year, Negros Power has already made significant strides, such as:
- Replacing old meters and installing elevated metering centers.
- Rehabilitating major substations like Alijis and Reclamation.
- Improving infrastructure through pole replacement, intermediate installations, and line rehabilitation.
- Implementing best practices in utility management to raise overall efficiency.
It’s clear that the focus has been on strengthening the foundation before moving into expansion and modernization.
The Road to Modernization
Negros Power is not stopping at rehabilitation. The next phase is all about modernization and expanding their capacity. Here’s what’s on the horizon:
- Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) System – This advanced system will allow real-time monitoring and control of power distribution, making the system smarter and more efficient.
- New Substations – The company plans to construct three additional substations to expand coverage and meet increasing demand.
- Line Expansion – Continuous expansion of power lines and capacity upgrades are underway to serve more households and businesses.
- Enhanced System Reliability – Investments are focused on ensuring that the power supply remains steady even during peak demand.

These projects are part of the long-term vision to make Negros Power’s system “ahead of the curve” by the end of their five-year plan.
The Bigger Picture
The company has already spent more than P1.2 billion out of its P2.1 billion investment program, which also includes the Sitio Electrification Program that aims to bring electricity to remote communities.
Currently, Negros Power supplies electricity to Bacolod, Bago, Talisay, and Silay, as well as the municipalities of Murcia and Don Salvador Benedicto. With more infrastructure in place, these communities can look forward to fewer outages, stronger capacity, and reliable service.
What This Means for Residents and Businesses
For residents, these investments mean fewer blackouts, more consistent electricity, and a modernized power grid that can keep up with growing household needs. For businesses, especially those in Bacolod City and its surrounding areas, this is a significant boost. A stable power supply means smoother operations, reduced downtime, and more opportunities for growth.
Powering the Future of Negros
Negros Power is clearly investing not just in infrastructure but also in the future of Central Negros. The P192M mobile substation is only one piece of the puzzle, but it represents a commitment to reliability and modernization. With ongoing projects, expansion plans, and billions in investment, the company is on track to transform the way power is delivered to thousands of households and businesses.
Reliable electricity is more than just keeping the lights on. It powers homes, drives businesses, and fuels progress—and Negros Power seems determined to deliver just that.
