The Tales of the Psyche: Navigating Our Mental Odyssey is the newest exhibit at the Art Cove, Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod’s built-in art space. This is the eighth installation of the gallery, featuring the works of Ms. Sheila Marie Basio, marking her third solo exhibition.

Media friends, bloggers, artists, and distinguished guests attended the event on June 5, 2024.

Sheila Marie Diola-Basio hails from the city of Escalante, Negros Occidental. She is a retired teacher, meditator, yogini, and an active mindfulness advocate. She is a self-taught artist, married, and blessed with three amazing sons.

Over the years, without formal study, she has explored the beauty and challenges of watercolor, oil, and acrylic. Her works represent her battles with mental illness, self-empowerment, and choosing life over defeat.

“Art has always been a medium for expression, and through these works, I have attempted to capture the complexities, struggles, and triumphs associated with mental health. Each piece tells a story—sometimes of despair, sometimes of hope, but always of resilience.” Sheila Marie Basio said.

Her artworks address mental health as a topic that touches everyone, whether directly or indirectly, and she hopes this exhibition sparks conversations, evokes empathy, and offers solace to those who might be struggling in silence.

“Here at Art Cove, we consider ourselves privileged to host such a profound and timely exhibit. In an age where the importance of mental health cannot be overstated, through Ms. Sheila’s art, we are encouraged to appreciate beauty and embrace the full range of our shared human experience,” said Archie Javellana, Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod’s Rooms Division Manager.The ribbon-cutting was led by the Tales of the Psyche artist, Ms. Sheila Marie Basio, with honorable guests Art Association of Bacolod–Negros Treasurer Patty Jane Ku Ong, City Councilor of Victorias Hon. Joji Larraga, and was assisted by Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod’s Rooms Division Manager, Mr. Archie Javellana.

The exhibit was also graced by the presence of Mr. Charlie Co, co-owner of Orange Project and a Filipino contemporary visual artist known for works with a strong socio-realist theme.

Tales of the Psyche will run until September 7, 2024.

Art Cove, the esteemed art gallery nestled within Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod, is thrilled to announce the opening of “Echoes of the Forest: a visual ode to nature,” a solo exhibition by the Negrosanon visual artist Revo Yanson

The event, held on March 6, 2024, was attended by members of the media, distinguished guests, and local artists.

Revo Yanson is renowned for his expertise in both traditional painting and digital arts, delving into the psychological and metaphysical aspects of existence to widespread acclaim. His works are known to go beyond societal limits, providing deep insights into the human mind.

Throughout his illustrious career, Revo Yanson has exhibited a deep commitment to the arts and the local community. He has served as the chairperson of DIHON, the visual art sector of the Concerned Artists of the Philippines-Negros, and co-founded ArtTambay, a multi-disciplinary art collective. Additionally, he co-manages Galleria G, an artist-run space in Bacolod, further enriching the local artistic landscape.

With five solo exhibitions and participation in group shows in Negros Occidental and Los Angeles, USA, Revo Yanson has established himself as a visionary artist with a diverse range of talents on both local and international stage.

“Echoes of the Forest” represents a significant moment for Art Cove, as it marks the return of a previous artist, symbolizing our commitment to nurturing local talent. “As we enter our third year of hosting exhibits, Art Cove continues to be a vibrant space where Negrosanon artists flourish, captivating visitors with authentic showcases. The exhibit promises to be a captivating exploration of nature’s beauty and the human connection to the natural world. Through his masterful strokes and intricate details, Revo Yanson invites viewers on a profound visual journey into the heart of the forest, encouraging contemplation and fostering a deeper appreciation for the world around us.

Revo Yanson delivered his exhibit statement in the form of a “Binalaybay,” accompanied by friends from the art industry, Mr. Ryn Paul Gonzales on bamboo flute, and Mr. Mike Borromeo on guitar.

The ribbon cutting was led by the artist, Mr. Revo Yanson, honorable guests, City Mayor of Cadiz, Hon. Salvador Escalante Jr., and Deputy Ambassador of the Netherlands to Indonesia, Amb. Adriaan Palm and assisted by Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod’s Rooms Division Manager, Mr. Archie Javellana, and Park Inn by Radisson Iloilo and Bacolod’s Area General Manager, Mr. Sherwin Lucas.

The day was filled with fun games and a delightful lunch, creating cherished memories for everyone involved.

On the anniversary day, July 8, an observance of Thanksgiving Holy Mass and blessing took place, followed by the awarding of training completion incentives and gifts that include tickets to the well-sought SB19 Pagtatag Concert at SMX Convention Center Bacolod.

The activities continue beyond the anniversary day as the hotel is set to hold a blood donation drive in collaboration with Red Cross open to employees and their families to participate, followed by a secondary family day celebration at Kalipay Negrense Foundation.

“We particularly lined up activities focusing on giving back to our team members and the community that aligns with our golden circle, which caters to various aspects of service. The occasion began with the launching of Shapes, Shades & Scapes, a solo exhibit featuring the works of Negros-borne artist Edbon Sevilleno. The abstract showcase provides viewers with an ethereal experience of finding images and shapes within and behind other forms, providing a safe passage through the composition.

Local prominent figures of the Negros art scene, such as Mr. Eduardo “Eddie Boy” Ledesma, and Ms. Ligaya “Gaying” Lizares were invited to cut the ribbon together with artist Edbon Sevilleno and Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod, Front Office Manager, Mr. Archie Javellana.

“What we have here (exhibit) is the kind of art that reveals the limits of our understanding, the one that lets you abandon superficial perspectives,” said Archie Javellana, Front Office Manager of Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod

As guests marveled at the fascinating display of artworks, Christmas cheer spurred at the venue with the entrance of dancers (Yuri Crew) initially poised as guests at the gallery center. The dance signaled the start of another affair, the ceremonial tree lighting. Guests were directed to Marapara Plaza (Pool Deck), where a 15-foot tree awaited its lighting.

Ushered by the dancers, Ms. Julia Javellana, Assistant Mall Manager of SM City Bacolod & Mr. Sherwin Lucas, General Manager of Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod, led the ceremonial lighting.

Lifting the mood to a holly-jolly beat, dancers performed to an altitude as the Christmas Tree lights up the deck. Guest of Honor, Ms. Carmeli Bantug – Zayco, representative of Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo “Albee” Benitez, delivered a message of greetings from the mayor.

“Christmas is a season of reminiscing the vibrant colors of our youth and rediscovering the sentiments of our hearts – and for us, it’s gratefulness. We dedicate today’s occasion to the people who followed and supported our journey to becoming the Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod that we are today,” said Sherwin Lucas, General Manager of Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod.

The Christmas launch featured musical performances from the De La Salle chorale Bacolod. To cap off the night, guests embark on a festival gourmet journey with a Thanksgiving and Christmas-inspired spread with a carving station featuring fine roasts, maple turkey and desserts that speak of the holidays.

Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod celebrates the comeback of the Masskara Festival by offering elevated Negrosanon dishes for tourists to enjoy and locals to rediscover.

Festivities aren’t complete without a feast. Arima, in particular, has prepared classic heirloom dishes crafted to reflect the breadth of Negrosanon cuisine, starting with Ensaladang Talong – roasted eggplant salad with calamansi infused dressing plated heavenly with a tower of crispy fish.

Arima offers two specialty mains, starting with the iconic Bacolod Inasal interpreted with marinated boneless chicken, slow-grilled with annatto oil and garnished with fried onion fritters; and Habichuelas, a Filipino dish of Spanish origins, which consists of pork braised with white beans, tomatoes, and pumpkin.

 
For desserts, guests may choose between 2 selections. The Halo – Halo Turon – is a perfect union of two well-loved Filipino sweets. It comprises pastry rolls filled with sweetened banana and beans, served with ube ice cream and other halo-halo staple ingredients, capped with a drizzle of chocolate syrup. If you prefer cakes for dessert, try out the Sweet Potato Cake. The dessert comprises layers of vanilla and ube sponge cake, with sweet potato butter and purple yam buttercream, mixed berry coulis, Kamote chip, and garnished with sweet potato compote and burnt meringue.

Celebrations are always partnered with drinks. Marapara Pool Bar and the Lobby Lounge at Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod have produced two locally inspired cocktails worth a shot. Lumay, or enchanting potion in the local dialect, is a deconstructed drink consisting of dark rum, muscovado syrup, dehydrated citrus, and calamansi sour mix served with a side of peanuts. Yuhom, or smile in the local dialect, will surely give glee to any guest due to its glittery look made with white and dark rum, fresh pineapple and orange juice, muscovado syrup with a dash of blue curacao topped with dehydrated fruits. Marapara pool bar live entertainment continues every Friday and Saturday from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

For grabbable items, Dash, the hotel’s 24-hour grab n’ go counter, will also offer artisanal Filipino pastries and bread such as pan de coco, pan Bisaya with coconut, corned beef pandesal, coffee bun with coffee streusel, Spanish rolls, blue ternate sourdough, muscovado cookies, and calamansi crinkles. These items are also perfect for pasalubong.
