COMELEC and Negros Power Team Up to Keep the Lights On During 2025 Elections

When election day comes around, we all want one thing — a smooth, glitch-free voting experience. That’s exactly what the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and Negros Electric and Power Corporation (Negros Power) are working toward with a brand-new partnership that’s all about keeping the power on and the votes flowing.

Yep, you read that right. COMELEC and Negros Power just made it official. On April 7, 2025, both parties signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to make sure there’s stable, uninterrupted electricity before, during, and after the much-anticipated 2025 National and Local Elections.

Let’s explain what this partnership means for voters and why this is such a big deal.

A Commitment to a Smooth, Transparent Election

The ceremonial signing went down at the Negros Power headquarters, and it was a big day. Representing COMELEC was Atty. Ian Lee M. Ananoria, the Provincial Election Supervisor of Negros Occidental. On Negros Power’s side, their President and CEO, Roel Z. Castro, was there, along with Chief Operating Officer Engr. Bailey Del Castillo and other key officers from the company.

You could feel the mutual commitment in the room. Everyone seemed focused on one goal — delivering a safe, transparent, and power interruption-free election.

Power Plans and Real Prep Work

During the event, Engr. Felgie C. Magla-oy, Systems Operation Manager at Negros Power, presented the company’s Election Power Readiness Plan. This isn’t just talk — they’re putting serious work into this. The plan outlines all the technical and operational strategies they’ll use to ensure the lights stay on and the machines keep running smoothly.

From proactive maintenance to deploying response teams, Negros Power is stepping up to make sure voters won’t have to deal with outages or delays while casting their ballots.

What Each Side Brings to the Table

This agreement is more than a handshake and a press release. It promises to work together and make the electoral process more reliable for everyone involved.

COMELEC is taking charge of the informational side of things. They’ll provide election updates, spread voter awareness, and promote transparency. Their goal is to make sure everyone knows what’s happening and why it matters.

Meanwhile, Negros Power will be focusing on the energy side. That means clearing power line obstructions, double-checking distribution systems, and stationing crews to respond to any issues during election day quickly. In short, they’re on call to make sure nothing disrupts the voting process.

Informing the Public, One Bill at a Time

Here’s a clever touch — part of the collaboration includes adding COMELEC information materials to Negros Power’s monthly billing statements. That means nearly 230,000 customers across Bacolod, Talisay, Silay, Bago, Murcia, and Don Salvador Benedicto will get election info straight to their homes.

It’s a smart move to keep people in the loop without asking them to go out of their way. That outreach can really make a difference in voter education and participation.

Why It Matters

“This collaboration strengthens our shared commitment to protect the democratic process and deliver clean, honest, and credible elections,” said Atty. Ananoria during the event. It’s a refreshing reminder that behind all the noise and drama that sometimes comes with elections, people are doing the groundwork to make sure your voice is heard without technical issues getting in the way.

Roel Z. Castro of Negros Power echoed the sentiment. “We are fully prepared to ensure a reliable power supply throughout the election period. This is our way of contributing to a secure and credible electoral process,” he said.

No Extra Cost, Just Extra Effort

One more thing worth noting — this entire collaboration doesn’t add any extra financial burden to COMELEC. There are no budgetary implications under the agreement. It’s all about coordination and dedication, not added costs.

Looking Ahead to a Smooth and Powered-Up Election

So, what does this mean for you, the voter? You can head to the polls in 2025 with peace of mind. Thanks to this partnership, you won’t have to worry about blackouts or system glitches ruining your voting experience.

Not every day you see a government agency and a power company join forces like this, but when they do, and when it’s done right, the whole community benefits. After all, your vote deserves to be counted — and now, thanks to COMELEC and Negros Power, there’s a strong plan in place to make sure nothing gets in the way.
