Negros Power Shields Nearly 50% of Consumers from NGCP Power Interruption
When the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced a scheduled power outage for maintenance, most Bacolod residents prepared for a long day without electricity. However, thanks to Negros Power’s careful planning and updated systems, nearly half of the affected consumers hardly noticed the outage.
Turning a Power Outage into an Opportunity
On October 25, 2025, NGCP performed important maintenance on the Bacolod to Alijis 69kV line from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This work directly impacted the Murcia and Alijis substations managed by Negros Power, which together serve almost 94,000 customers. Usually, this would result in a full-day blackout for those areas.

However, here’s the impressive part. Through Negros Power’s effective load transfer system, only about 47,000 consumers were truly affected. The company kept the lights on for nearly 47,000 households and businesses, reducing the impact by almost 50%.
Smart Moves and Modern Systems
According to Engr. Leomel Tambanillo, Assistant Vice President for Planning and Business Operations and Negros Power’s spokesperson, said this wasn’t just luck. It was a well-planned strategy.
“We maximized our redundant lines and load break switches to tie up the affected feeders to other substations with available power,” he explained. “That’s how we managed to save almost 50% of our consumers from the scheduled outage.”
In simple terms, Negros Power used its upgraded systems to reroute electricity and keep power flowing where it mattered most. This proactive approach shows how far the company’s modernization program has come in a short time.
Investing in Smarter Infrastructure
Negros Power has been investing in system rehabilitation and modernization. Their goal is not just to fix issues as they arise. They want to build a smarter, more resilient power distribution network across Central Negros.

Whenever NGCP schedules a maintenance shutdown, Negros Power doesn’t just wait for power to return. Instead, they treat it as a chance to perform their own internal upgrades. This means fewer interruptions overall, better system reliability, and more efficient service in the long run.
“We always make sure that every time NGCP requests a power interruption, we take advantage of that window to perform our upgrades,” Engr. Tambanillo said. “We maximize these chances to modernize our system and ensure better service for everyone.”
Fewer Blackouts, Better Service
All these efforts are already paying off. Negros Power’s ongoing rehabilitation projects have led to a 70% reduction in unplanned power interruptions. That’s a huge step forward for the company and its consumers.
Their ultimate goal is to achieve a completely reliable and uninterrupted power supply across Central Negros. It’s an ambitious vision, but one that’s slowly becoming reality thanks to consistent investments in technology, automation, and modern infrastructure.
“Our goal is to make the entire Central Negros power distribution system smarter, stronger, and free from unscheduled interruptions,” Engr. Tambanillo shared. “We’re investing heavily to make that vision a reality.”

A Brighter, More Reliable Future
Power interruptions can be frustrating, but Negros Power’s quick response and smart load management show that modern technology and forward-thinking leadership can make a big difference. By cutting the outage impact in half, the company demonstrated that it’s not just focused on restoring power. It aims to build a future-ready grid that keeps everyone connected.
Negros Power also thanked its customers for their patience and support during the maintenance period. The company assured everyone that each upgrade and improvement project is done with the community in mind.
At the end of the day, what happened in Bacolod was more than just a successful power reroute. It was a glimpse into a brighter, more reliable future for Central Negros. There, modern infrastructure and dedicated service keep the lights on, even when challenges arise.
