Negros Power August 2026 Electricity Rates See Slight Increase
People in Central Negros will notice a small increase in their electricity bills this August 2026. Negros Electric and Power Corporation, or Negros Power, is raising the average residential electricity rate.
In August, the average residential electricity rate will be ₱14.2787 per kilowatt hour (kWh). This is ₱0.15 higher per kWh than the July rate of ₱14.1287.
While the increase seems small, people who use more electricity may see a bigger change in their bills. Negros Power is spreading out higher Wholesale Electricity Spot Market costs over several months, rather than charging the full amount all at once.

For residential customers, the increase from July is about ₱0.15 per kWh. If your household uses 200 kWh, you’ll pay around ₱30 more. Using 300 kWh means about ₱45 more, and 500 kWh would be about ₱75 extra.

Why Did Rates Increase?
The main reason for the August increase is higher transmission and other charges, even though the generation charge went down.
The generation charge dropped by ₱0.3364 per kWh in August. But this decrease was not enough to offset increases in other parts of the bill.
A big reason was the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM). Its rate went up from ₱10.4213 per kWh in July to ₱12.2420 per kWh in August.
The higher WESM price occurred because electricity demand increased and some power plants were temporarily offline. This put extra pressure on the Luzon and Visayas grids. Yellow and Red Alerts showed tight supply, which also pushed up spot market prices.
Five-Month WESM Cost Recovery
Negros Power is not charging customers the full WESM cost increase in one month. Instead, they are spreading it out over five months.
This way, the increase has less impact on your bill right away. It also explains why the generation charge went down in August, even though the WESM rate was higher.
If the cost were not spread out, customers would have seen a much bigger increase in one month. Spreading it over several months gives households more time to adjust their budgets.
Higher Transmission Charges
Transmission charges increased by ₱0.2593 per kWh in August. The increase was mainly associated with higher transmission costs and ancillary services connected to reserve market charges.
Transmission charges cover the cost of moving electricity through the transmission system before it reaches local distribution networks. These charges can rise even when generation costs decline, contributing to a higher overall electricity rate.
In addition, Real Property and Local Taxes for the third quarter were also added to the August rate. These charges may not get as much attention as generation or transmission costs, but they still affect what you pay. Manage Higher Bills

Turning off lights, televisions, computers, and other appliances when they are not in use can help lower electricity usage. Unplug appliances when practical, especially if they remain on standby for long periods.

For refrigerators, try not to open the door too often and make sure the seals work well. Use washing machines and other big appliances with full loads when you can to save energy.
