Service Beyond Power: Negros Power and IBP Join Forces for Environmental Justice
Don Salvador Benedicto – What happens when you bring together passionate individuals, a shared love for the environment, and a scenic mountainous landscape? You get one amazing tree-planting event!
Last September 29, 2024, employees from Negros Power teamed up with the Guardians of the Environment to participate in a tree-planting activity held in the beautiful mountain region of Don Salvador Benedicto. And this wasn’t your typical weekend get-together. The event also saw the participation of Municipal Vice Mayor Nehemiah Joe Dela Cruz, giving it a big thumbs-up from the local government.
Justice for the Environment
This tree-planting event wasn’t just about planting trees; it was part of a more significant movement. Spearheaded by the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP), the activity was organized under the banner of “Justice for Environment.” It is an advocacy close to their hearts.
Leading the charge was Atty. Gerry Llena, President of IBP in Negros Occidental, who couldn’t be more thankful to Negros Power. According to him, having Negros Power on board as one of the major sponsors was a big deal for the success of the activity. “Their support really made a huge difference,” he said.
A Huge Turnout of Environmental Warriors
The event witnessed a remarkable turnout! More than 500 individuals from diverse backgrounds united with a common goal—to give back to the environment. From government employees and various organizations to local institutions and even Indigenous Peoples from the province, everyone was there, digging, planting, and making a difference. It was a true display of community spirit and shared mission.
The result? A staggering 2,000 trees were planted! These trees, ranging from Almaciga, Bacan, and Narra to Acacia, are set to significantly contribute to the region’s greenery. They are expected to play a crucial role in reforesting the area, improving air quality, and providing shelter for local wildlife. This is a tangible accomplishment that each participant can take pride in.
Negros Power’s Commitment to the Environment
For Negros Power, this isn’t just a one-time thing. They’ve been actively involved in programs like this as part of their commitment to environmental conservation. It’s not just about delivering power; they’re also all about protecting the planet for future generations. By participating in efforts like this tree-planting activity, they show that business and nature can work hand in hand.
It’s inspiring to see large companies like Negros Power step up and take responsibility for more than just their bottom line. They’re investing in our environment’s long-term health and ensuring that our natural resources are protected and preserved.
Why Tree Planting Matters
Now, let’s take a second to discuss why events like these are so important. Tree planting does so much more than just making the area look greener (though that’s a bonus!). It helps combat deforestation, improves air quality by absorbing carbon dioxide, and creates habitats for wildlife.
Plus, getting people involved in hands-on activities like this spreads awareness. Suddenly, everyone realizes that we all have a part to play in caring for the environment. And that’s the kind of change we need—everyone pitching in, one tree at a time.
Looking Forward to More Green Initiatives
This event is just one of the many ways Negros Power is staying true to its promise of environmental stewardship. With programs like these, we hope more companies follow suit and contribute to creating a greener, healthier future.
So, what’s next for Negros Power and their environmental efforts? Stay tuned, because with their track record, they will surely have more eco-friendly initiatives in the pipeline. In the meantime, let’s celebrate that over 2,000 new trees are taking root in Don Salvador Benedicto, thanks to a community that came together with a shared mission.
Now, that’s how you blend business with a bit of fun, community spirit, and a whole lot of environmental love!
