Negros Power Undertakes Proactive Maintenance on Vital Sub-Transmission Line to Prevent Outages
Powering Negros: How Proactive Maintenance Keeps the Lights On
Electricity is a modern-day essential, but how often do we stop to think about the people and processes behind it? In Bacolod City, Negros Power has been hard at work, ensuring that every flick of the switch delivers reliable power. Let’s dive into how they’re taking action to upgrade the Bacolod-Silay 69kV sub-transmission line and why it matters.
Big Plans for a Vital Power Line
Negros Power recently kicked off a proactive maintenance project on the Bacolod-Silay sub-transmission line, a 69kV powerhouse that connects Bacolod to Panaogao, Talisay, and Lopez substations. From 5:30 AM to 6:00 PM last Sunday, January 12, their teams tackled Segment P, a critical 4.9-kilometer stretch of this 30-kilometer line.

The job involved replacing 130 suspension insulators and reinforcing 43 structures. Negros Power deployed 15 dedicated teams to ensure the work was completed on time, minimizing disruptions for their customers.
Why the Maintenance Matters
This sub-transmission line isn’t just another piece of infrastructure; it’s the backbone of electricity distribution in the region. It transports power from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in Bacolod to key substations, supplying homes and businesses with the electricity they rely on daily.
But it’s not all smooth sailing. Stretching through sprawling sugarcane plantations, the line faces unique challenges. Rugged terrain and harsh weather can make routine repairs a logistical puzzle. That’s why Negros Power’s proactive approach is so essential.

Facing the Challenges of a 40-Year-Old System
“This sub-transmission line is 40 years old, and its accessories are worn out and substandard,” explained Engineer Mervin Dalian, head of Negros Power’s Network Development and Operations Group. “It’s a challenge to meet current electricity demands, so we’re implementing solutions as quickly as possible.”
Negros Power is not just repairing but upgrading. Their goal is to modernize the entire 30-kilometer line, divided into seven segments, to ensure it can handle today’s energy needs.
Last December, they replaced hundreds of pin insulators along a six-kilometer stretch. Now, with Segment P complete, they’re gearing up for the remaining sections, with full project completion expected by February 2025.
Why Proactive Maintenance Benefits Everyone
Unplanned power outages are disruptive. They interrupt daily routines, disrupt businesses, and cause unnecessary stress. By tackling potential issues before they escalate, Negros Power is investing in long-term reliability.

Engineer Dalian understands the inconvenience of planned outages but assures customers it’s for the greater good. “We know power interruptions can be frustrating, but these upgrades are necessary to build a stronger, more reliable system,” he said.
What’s Next for Negros Power?
The maintenance project is far from over. Negros Power plans to continue work on the remaining segments over the coming weekends. Each step brings the region closer to a fully upgraded, robust power line that meets future demands.
In the meantime, they’re committed to minimizing disruptions and keeping customers informed about scheduled maintenance activities.
Powering the Future Together
Reliable electricity doesn’t just happen. It’s the result of hard work, careful planning, and a commitment to progress. Negros Power’s efforts remind us of the behind-the-scenes heroes ensuring our homes and businesses stay powered.

So, the next time you flip a switch, take a moment to appreciate the teams working tirelessly to make it possible. With their proactive approach, Negros Power is lighting the way to a brighter, more reliable future for Negros.
