Iloilo City Takes Steps to Become a Green City with MORE Power Partnership
MORE Power, the power distribution utility in Iloilo City, has partnered with the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) and the Iloilo City Government to promote renewable energy resources.
The agreement, signed on August 3, 2023, aims to make electricity more affordable for consumers in Iloilo by providing them with more choices of renewable energy technologies.
Under the agreement, MORE Power will establish a one-stop shop to offer Net Metering and Distributed Energy Resources (DER) to consumers in Iloilo. Net Metering allows consumers to generate their own electricity from renewable sources, such as solar panels, and sell the excess back to the grid. DER refers to small-scale power plants that can be installed on or near homes and businesses.
MORE Power President and CEO Roel Z. Castro said the agreement is a “major step forward” in the company’s commitment to promote green energy. “We are excited to partner with the ERC and the Iloilo City Government to make renewable energy more accessible to consumers in Iloilo,” he said. “This partnership will help us achieve our goal of providing affordable and reliable electricity to the people of Iloilo.”
The ERC will provide technical and regulatory expertise to MORE Power in implementing the Net Metering and DER programs. The ERC will also support information drives to increase awareness of renewable energy among consumers in Iloilo.
ERC Chairperson and CEO Monalisa C. Dimalanta said the agreement is a “win-win” for consumers, the environment, and the economy. “This partnership will help consumers save money on their electricity bills, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and promote the development of renewable energy in the Philippines,” she said.
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Trenas said the agreement is “in line” with the city’s goal of becoming a “green city.” “We are committed to promoting sustainable development in Iloilo, and this partnership is a major step forward in achieving that goal,” he said.
Trenas said Net Metering and DER (Distributed Energy Resources) can also benefit the local economy by helping households and small businesses lower energy consumption. “This will lead to lower operating costs for businesses, which will create jobs and boost the local economy,” he said.
The agreement between MORE Power, ERC, and the Iloilo City Government is a significant step forward in promoting renewable energy in the Philippines. The partnership will make it easier for consumers in Iloilo to access renewable energy technologies, which will help them save money on their electricity bills, reduce their environmental impact, and support the development of a sustainable energy future.
Primelectric to Implement Same in Bacolod City if JVA is Approved
If the Primelectric-CENECO Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) is approved, Primelectric will take over the management of CENECO and implement the same program in Bacolod City. This will be a significant boost for promoting renewable energy in Negros Occidental.
Primelectric is committed to providing its customers with affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy. The partnership between Primelectric and CENECO will create new opportunities for businesses and industries in Bacolod City to adopt renewable energy. It will also help the city reduce its carbon footprint and become more resilient to power outages.
I am excited to see the future of renewable energy in the Philippines. The partnership between MORE Power, Iloilo City, and the ERC is a major step forward, and I am confident that Primelectric will also implement this in Bacolod.
