Negros Power Explains July 2026 Electricity Rate Increase and What It Means for Consumers

People and businesses using Negros Electric and Power Corporation, or Negros Power, will see a small increase in their electricity bills this July 2026. The company says this change is mostly because electricity prices in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market, or WESM, have gone up.

Negros Power did not add the full increase to bills right away. Instead, they are spreading some of the extra costs over the next six months. This helps make the change easier on families and businesses, while still keeping the power supply steady.

Negros Power Shares Reasons Behind July 2026 Rate Increase

July 2026 Residential Electricity Rate

For July 2026, the average residential electricity rate is now ₱14.1287 per kilowatt-hour, compared to ₱13.8417 per kilowatt-hour in June. This represents an increase of ₱0.2870 per kilowatt hour.

Even though the increase is small, it can still affect monthly budgets, especially for families who use more electricity. This shows how changes in the national power market can quickly impact local rates.

Updated Electricity Rates for July 2026

Negros Power shared these average electricity rates for this month’s bills:

  • Residential: ₱14.1287 per kilowatt hour
  • Low Voltage: ₱14.0494 per kilowatt hour
  • High Voltage: ₱13.1864 per kilowatt hour

Compared with the previous month:

  • Residential customers experienced an increase of ₱0.2870 per kilowatt hour
  • Low Voltage customers saw an increase of ₱0.3025 per kilowatt hour
  • High Voltage customers recorded an increase of ₱0.3170 per kilowatt hour

These changes show the higher cost of buying electricity from the wholesale market during this billing period.

Why Did Electricity Rates Increase?

The main reason for the increase is that electricity costs more in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market.

During the billing period, electricity demand increased while several power plants had limited availability. As a result, the Luzon and Visayas power grids experienced Yellow Alerts and Red Alerts, indicating tighter power reserves.

When available electricity becomes limited while demand continues to rise, wholesale market prices naturally increase. Distribution utilities such as Negros Power purchase electricity from various suppliers, including the spot market. Higher generation costs eventually affect the rates paid by consumers.

How the Staggered Recovery Helps Consumers

Negros Power chose not to charge customers the full increase from WESM in one month. Instead, they are spreading part of the extra cost over six months.

With this staggered plan, the generation charge for July only goes up by ₱0.20 per kilowatt hour.

By spreading the rest of the increase over several months, customers do not have to deal with a big jump in one bill. This gives families and businesses more time to adjust their budgets, while the company can still recover its costs slowly.

What This Means for Households

For many families, even a small increase in electricity rates can affect monthly expenses. Air conditioners, refrigerators, water pumps, washing machines, and other household appliances consume significant amounts of electricity, especially during warmer months.

People may see higher bills depending on how much electricity they use each month. Homes that use more electricity will see a bigger increase than those that try to save energy.

Knowing about these rate changes helps families manage their budgets and find ways to cut down on electricity use.

Simple Ways to Save Electricity

Although electricity rates are beyond consumers’ control, reducing energy consumption can help lower monthly bills. Here are a few practical habits that make a difference:

  • Turn off lights and appliances when they are not in use.
  • Unplug chargers and electronic devices that continue drawing power while idle.
  • Set air conditioners to an efficient temperature instead of running them at maximum cooling.
  • Use energy-efficient appliances whenever possible.
  • Maximize natural lighting during the daytime.
  • Regularly clean electric fans and air conditioner filters to improve efficiency.

Small daily changes can add up to noticeable savings over time.

Negros Power Continues to Promote Transparency

Negros Power says it is committed to keeping customers informed about what affects their monthly electricity rates. By explaining each rate change, the company hopes to help people understand how the national power market affects local bills.

The company also encourages people to use energy wisely and promises to keep providing reliable electric service in its area.

Staying Informed About Your Electricity Bill

The July 2026 electricity rate change shows how the country’s wholesale power market is changing. Higher WESM prices led to a small increase in rates, but Negros Power’s staggered plan helps lower the immediate cost for customers.

As electricity demand changes, the best way for families and businesses to manage costs is to stay updated on rates and save energy where possible. Understanding these changes helps people make better choices and keep their bills manageable while still getting reliable service.
