Beginner’s Checklist To Fall Off-Road Adventures

There’s never a bad time to start enjoying the off-roading lifestyle, and there’s never a better time than the fall season to get out there and see what off-roading has to offer. However, having a great first experience means planning ahead and preparing adequately for your trip. That means doing your research before heading out the door, like looking up the most recent weather reports or checking into fresh wheel and tire packages that can optimize your vehicle before you journey out. If you’re unfamiliar with everything that off-roading entails, here is a beginner’s checklist to help you get the most out of your fall adventures.

Check for Weather

Autumn is a fickle season, bringing varied weather patterns that can make it difficult to develop solid plans for anything, let alone off-roading. However, there are three helpful ways to prepare for fall’s inclement weather:

  1. It’s crucial that you check out the local weather reports for your area, or within the surrounding areas of where you’re going to be off-roading. Wild weather can provide lots of ideal mudding terrain to dive into with glee, but it can still become a safety and comfortability hazard if you’re not properly suited up for the occasion.
  2. You should stock up on all-weather gear for both you and your vehicle beforehand and bring it with you for your personal comfort.
  3. Be sure to inspect your vehicle for any existing issues on your ride that may need improvement. For instance, it may be beneficial to purchase all-weather off road tires that can withstand even the gnarliest of storm conditions.

Off-roading always comes with its own set of surprises and challenges, which ultimately just becomes part of the fun. However, in order to keep your security and enjoyment in mind, checking weather conditions for the day or week of your trip and verifying that everything you’ve collected is now ready and available to handle any turbulent storms is essential to a good first off-roading experience.

Suspension for Any Terrain

Upgrading the capabilities of your rig’s suspension may be the most vital component of your off-roading trip. After all, the suspension of your vehicle takes the biggest hits out in unknown terrain, and being able to rely on it is truly the only way to safely and smoothly get yourself in and out of sketchy environments with ease. If you find yourself caught in a nasty downpour that turns into a flooding situation, or you come across fallen logs or large debris, having a fresh set of shocks or struts, wheels and a pair of reliable Mickey Thompson mud tires is ideal for helping your ride sail through the tense, unruly terrain.

Bottom line: if you’re on a limited budget and you can’t afford all the bells and whistles to revitalize your rig the way you want to, put any money you have towards improving your suspension first. The peace of mind this will bring will be worth more than anything else when you’re romping outdoors in temperamental fall weather.

As a beginner, setting up your first fall off-roading trip may be daunting. However, if you plan accordingly while preparing yourself and your vehicle for any and all possibilities in the wild, you’ll enjoy yourself more than you ever expected.
