Globe Telecom, through its GCash, brought the scan to pay technology through a quick response (QR) code using smartphones to Bob’s Restaurant, one of the pioneer restaurants in Bacolod City starting yesterday.

In a press conference, Globe Telecom President and Chief Executive Officer Ernest Cu said that Bacolod has been one of the priority areas of Globe in the country as the company has 48 percent of the total market share in the city.

With their partnership with the owner of Bob’s, Roberto Magalona, Globe will make sure that establishments like this in Bacolod will have an ample coverage to access the scan to pay technology as it is “cloud-based, virtualized, and real-time.”

GCash is a mobile money service which can be used to pay for goods and services without the need for cash as it could be downloaded to Android and iOS, Globe’s press release also said.

Partner merchants like Bob’s customers can use GCash by clicking the Pay QR icon, scanning the QR code of the establishment, and inputting the exact amount, without the need for small bills and loose change, it added.

The GCash wallet may be funded from any of the more than 12,000 GCash partner outlets nationwide including Globe stores, Puregold branches, SM Business Centers, Robinson’s Business Centers, 7-Eleven Barcode and Cliqq kiosks, Touch Pay Kiosks, and pawnshops such as Cebuana Lhuillier, Villarica, and Tambunting.
