Negros Power Steps Up Big Time to Keep the Lights On for the May Elections
You do not want to worry about sudden brownouts or flickering lights when it comes to something as important as the national and local elections. Good thing Negros Power is on top of it. Over the weekend of April 26 and 27, 2025, they went full speed ahead with a major maintenance drive to ensure everything runs smoothly when voters head to the polls.
Kicking Off with Major Repairs
Early Saturday morning, the Negros Power team rolled up their sleeves and got to work at the Murcia Substation. From 6:00 AM to almost 6:00 PM, they were busy installing more than 800 shiny new insulators and fixing up old, tired power lines. The goal? Make sure the network can handle the pressure and avoid any hiccups on election day.

And they did not stop there. The next day, the maintenance team moved to the Reclamation Substation, starting even earlier at 4:00 AM. By the time they wrapped up at 3:30 PM, another 400 insulators were in place, and many outdated and defective equipment had been swapped out for brand new ones. All this was done to boost the substation’s performance and keep the power steady.
Why All This Maintenance Matters
According to Engr. Oscar Duca, the Area Office Assistant Manager at Negros Power, this whole maintenance marathon is crucial. “We are committed to delivering seamless service and taking proactive steps to reinforce our network’s reliability,” he said. They are doing everything they can to ensure that when people vote on May 12, the last thing they must worry about is a power outage.

It is part of their promise to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC). Back on April 7, 2025, Negros Power signed a Memorandum of Agreement where they committed to finishing all major preventive maintenance and rehabilitation work ahead of the big day. No last-minute fixes, no taking chances.
No Scheduled Power Interruptions Starting April 28
To make things even better, Negros Power announced that starting April 28, two whole weeks before election day, they will put a stop to any scheduled power interruptions. That means residents and polling centers can breathe easy, knowing the lights will stay on when it matters most.
This move has already earned some major points with the locals. John Rey Canillada, a resident of Barangay 35, shared his thoughts, saying, “It’s reassuring to see Negros Power following through on their promises. Instead of worrying about brownouts, it’s good to see them working hard and investing in better service for all of us.”
Honestly, when was the last time you heard people actually praising a power company? That alone says a lot.

Part of a Bigger Plan
What happened over the weekend is just one piece of Negros Power’s bigger picture. They are rolling out a five-year modernization and rehabilitation program to upgrade infrastructure, add smarter grid technologies, and build a more reliable and future-ready power network for everyone.
They are not just focusing on elections. They are setting the stage for long-term improvements to improve daily life for the whole region. Think fewer outages, more efficient service, and a network that can handle whatever the future throws.
Powering Democracy and Everyday Life
At the end of the day, reliable electricity is not just about keeping your phone charged or your aircon running. It is about making sure democracy itself can function without a hitch. By taking these proactive steps, Negros Power is doing their part to support not only their customers but the entire democratic process.

So the next time you flick a switch and the lights come on without a second thought, remember the people who spent long hours under the sun and in the heat, swapping out insulators and tightening bolts, all so you would not have to think twice about your electricity.
With efforts like this, it is clear that Negros Power is serious about delivering on their promises and building a stronger, brighter future for everyone.
