Negros Power Spotted Trouble Before It Hit

Let’s be honest. Power interruptions are never fun. But what if a short, early morning outage could save us from a citywide blackout? That’s precisely what happened in Bacolod, and all thanks to quick action and modern tech. Negros Power prevented a major power outage by detecting a critical issue just in time.

Their team found a serious problem with one of their switches through regular thermal scanning. And when we say serious, we mean it was heating up to 316 degrees — that’s over four times hotter than the standard 70 degrees it should be operating at.

Overheating Could Have Led to a Blackout

The issue was found on the sub-transmission line that connects the NGCP substation to the Burgos and Mt. View substations. The problem? A Group Operated Air Break Switch was in danger of failing, and if it had gone down, large portions of the city could have been left in the dark for who knows how long.

Rather than waiting for the worst to happen, Negros Power did what any responsible utility company should do — they scheduled an emergency repair. This meant a temporary power interruption between 3:00 AM and 6:00 AM to fix the overheating switch safely.

Why This Temporary Outage Was Worth It

Sure, it was an inconvenience. No one likes waking up to no power, even if it’s just for a few hours. But this move showed exactly how Negros Power prevented a major power outage through fast action and modern monitoring tools. They even went on social media to explain the situation and asked for everyone’s understanding.

“We are committed to providing reliable power to our community, and this proactive maintenance is a testament to that commitment,” Negros Power said in a post.
